"Reiki treatments are a relatively new form of therapy being used to treat expectant mothers. However the roots stem from ancient traditions. Reiki treatments seek to balance the mind and body through holistic means. Reiki practitioners believe that the full benefits of Reiki are realized when the body is treated as a whole, in order to stabilise it equally in all parts. Natural energies are sought to be balanced, and never at one time is only a single part of the body concentrated on, in order to prevent the imbalance of natural energies in either the mother or the baby. Reiki is useful for treating not only the pregnant mother but the father as well, as all energies are believed to be connected in some form.
The basic principle that reiki is based upon, is that everything contains energy. People also contain energy, and this energy is transferable. At the time of birth we are all connected to this universal energy in a free manner. However, through-out the process of life, we lose energy as we experience and grow through life’s challenges. Daily expenditure of physical, emotional and mental energy causes a drop in this energy level.
Reiki treatment sessions allow an individual to be reconnected with the purest forms of energy that once flowed through them as children. Universal energy is tapped into and drawn back into the body by using meditation practice. Energetic blocks of the mind and the body are freed; therefore the associated body conditions that result from these blockages are effectively treated.
Mothers can experience an ease of their nausea, fatigue and other physical pregnancy symptoms by incorporating Reiki practice into their lives. The need for C-sections has been proven to be reduced when a woman has been undergoing Reiki sessions. The baby is also positively benefited by the techniques used in Reiki sessions. Babies may feel calmed and relaxed or sometimes they may feel like moving due to feeling comfortable whilst in the womb.
This practice is safe to use at all stages of pregnancy. Some women even use the treatments as early as immediately after conception to promote a healthy environment for the developing baby. Conception problems have been effectively treated with reiki sessions. Reiki sessions are ideal to stabilise the emotional adjustment for the mother and perhaps even the father after the birth of the child. Mothers report feelings of being able to manage their fatigue and stress better when they are participating in a series of Reiki treatments. They may feel that they are able to care for their baby more easily with less strain on themselves. Babies will likely also feel well-adjusted to their new environment, just as their mother does. Reiki can be used on the baby to help improve the child’s sleep, treat colicky problems and accelerate motor skill development. A Reiki master will be able to teach you to be able to administer some reiki techniques upon yourself and feel more comfortable throughout pregnancy."
I feel very blessed to have had experienced conception and pregnancy after my Reiki Masters Course and it is with great pleasure to be able to share this with you. As well as carrying out my own daily Reiki treatments, I was also giving my baby daily Reiki treatments. It wasn't until I became an attuned Reiki Teacher that I felt my baby had become attuned to the energy flow too. After my son's birth, he has been nicknamed the 'Reiki Baby', as he was so relaxed and contented. On many occasions it appears that Adam reaches out to exchange Reiki energy with me and others. I have also used Reiki to help him through teething, baby falls, and illnesses, having found it deeply relaxes, calms and brings him a peaceful sense of wellbeing.
Another Reiki client of mine heard about my pregnancy and birth and the positive benefits of having a 'Reiki Baby' and decided to take a Reiki I and II course with me after she found out she was pregnant. After becoming a Reiki Practitioner, she gave her 'baby daily Reiki treatments. She was able to carry the baby almost to full term and reports that they are easy to care for, whenever they are fussy she gives them Reiki and they calm down.
In my Clinic and from my own personal experience, I have found Reiki benefits during pregnancy. I also believe very strongly that 'Reiki can never cause harm' and is appropriate for all situations, therefore can be used at any point in the pregnancy for the highest good.
"A research study at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut indicates that Reiki improved patient sleep by 86 percent, reduced pain by 78 percent, reduced nausea by 80 percent, and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94 percent.(7)
In 2009, The Center for Reiki Research completed the Touchstone Project, which summarized Reiki studies published in peer-reviewed journals. The 25 studies examined were further evaluated to determine the effectiveness of Reiki. The conclusion states: "Overall, based on the summaries of those studies that were rated according to scientific rigor as "Very Good" or "Excellent" by at least one reviewer and were not rated as weak by any reviewer, 83 percent show moderate to strong evidence in support of Reiki as a therapeutic modality."(8)", exracted from The International Center for Reiki Training by William Lee Rand
